Mile Deep International – Chris Seals
Mile Deep International is a 501(c)3 public charity organized to catalyze and aid in community development efforts through local churches working in their immediate contexts.
Dedication of its citizens associations — churches, culture groups, clubs, neighborhood associations
Resources of its formal institutions — businesses, schools, libraries, community colleges, hospitals, parks, social service agenciesWhy Asset Based Community Development? Before we answer the question, “Why ABCD?” we must first answer the question, “Why community development?” We as an organization believe firmly in the all-encompassing nature of the gospel. We believe that God is not only interested in spiritual transformation, but is also interested in the redemption of the totality of creation. We believe that God is interested in saving people, communities, and all of God’s earth from the ravages of sin, destruction, and death. Therefore, we find it imperative to participate in God’s redemptive activity in the world. Though we may participate in relief efforts, which provide short-term immediate aid in catastrophic situations, our primary goal will remain in development.Mile Deep International chose Asset Based Community Development, or ABCD, as the development model to follow, because we believe development efforts ought to be self-sustaining, and empowering. We believe that people have been blessed by God with unique visions, talents, and abilities. We also believe that God has filled nature, societies, and neighborhoods with ample resources to improve local conditions. As such, we are committed to coming alongside our neighbors to help them materialize their visions for community transformation and utilize the talents, abilities, and resources already at their disposal. In doing so, we believe the community members will take ownership and pride in the projects in their neighborhoods and work together to sustain the hard work of development. We believe that such community transformation will be a working out of the Lord’s prayer, that God’s will would “be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
ChristThe life, teaching, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth are the primary formative and motivating elements of Mile Deep International. Thus, we are committed to working with followers of Jesus who are committed to loving God and their neighbor.DepthThe people of God are blessed to be a blessing. We believe that followers of Jesus are commissioned to embody the mercy and love of God, in order to holistically transform their neighbors and community in rooted, substantial ways.LocationThe location of the people of God at work is significant. We believe individual followers of God and local church institutions are strategically placed to make a tangible and deep impact on their immediate surrounding community.ResourcesWe believe that the necessary resources for deep community transformation are within reach of local community members. MDI is committed to connecting people with these resources, and helping equip communities to recognize and activate them.
